چکیده

We have developed highly efficient, ambient temperature, solid-state ionic conductors (SSICs) for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) by doping a molecular plastic crystal, succinonitrile (SN), with trialkyl-substituted imidazolium iodide salts. High performance SSICs with enhanced ionic conductivity (2-4 mScm⁻¹) were obtained. High performance solid-state DSSCs with power conversion efficiency of 7.8% were fabricated using our SSICs combined with unique hierarchically nanostructured TiO₂ sphere (TiO₂-SP) photoelectrodes; these electrodes have significant macroporosity, which assists penetration of the solid electrolyte into the electrode. The performance of our solid-state DSSCs is, to the best of our knowledge, the highest reported thus far for cells using plastic crystal-based SSICs, and is comparable to that of the state-of-the-art DSSCs which use ionic liquid type electrolytes. This report provides a logical strategy for the development of efficient plastic crystal-based SSICs for DSSCs and other electrochemical devices.

A new class of solid state ionic conductors for application in all solid state dye sensitized solar cells.

Solid state ionic conductors based on a carbazole-imidazolium cation structure were synthesized for application in solid state dye sensitized solar cells. Solid state electrolytes using designed solid state ionic conductors and iodine provide dual channels for hole/triiodide transportation, giving rise to a good conversion efficiency of 2.85%.

A novel organic chromophore for dye-sensitized nanostructured solar cells.

A novel and efficient polyene-diphenylaniline dye for dye-sensitized solar cells has been synthesized. The dye has a short synthesis route and is readily adsorbed on TiO2 under a variety of dye-bath conditions. The overall solar-to-energy conversion efficiency is over 5% in the preliminary tests, in comparison with the conventional N719 dye which gives 6% under the same conditions. The dye is d...

Microsecond dye regeneration kinetics in efficient solid state dye-sensitized solar cells using a photoelectrochemically deposited PEDOT hole conductor.

Microsecond dye-regeneration kinetics was observed in efficient solid state dye-sensitized solar cells using photoelectrochemically deposited poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (PEDOT) hole conductors using transient absorption spectroscopy. The dye-regeneration rate is orders of magnitude slower than the case using the I(-)/I(3)(-) redox couple or commonly used small molecule hole conductor and i...

High-Performance All-Solid-State Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells Utilizing Imidazolium-Type Ionic Crystal as Charge Transfer Layer

An organic ionic crystal, 1-methyl-3-acetyl-imidazolium iodide (MA-II), was synthesized and applied into all-solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells as electrolyte material. We adopted 1-methyl-3-propylimidazolium tetra-fluoroborate as a crystal growth inhibitor, lithium bis-trifluoromethanesulfonylimide as a charge transport enhancer, and 4-tert-butyl pyridine as a carrier recombination inhibit...

An ionic liquid polymer, poly (1-alkyl-3-(acryloyloxy)hexylimidazolium iodide), was employed as an iodine-free electrolyte in all-solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells with an overall conversion efficiency of 5.29% under AM 1.5 simulated solar light (100 mW cm(-2)) illumination.
